Before the Chinese started copying everything it was the Japanese doing it. When Disneyland announced it was opening a park in Tokyo a Japanese businessman quickly got in touch to see if Disney was willing and able to open a second park in Nara. After negotiations broke down the businessman continued building his Disney "inspired" park anyways. It stayed open until 2006.
