The final group matches in Group C were Croatia vs Spain and Italy vs Ireland. Ireland were already out, but any of the other three could still lose out on a quarter final place. Croatia faced the European and World Champions, Spain, and were the clear underdogs. However, Spain has not been playing their best football at Euro 2012 and the Croatians threw everyhting they had at them. They had some really good chances and should have had a penalty and a Spanish player sent off within the first 20 minutes, yet the referee decided otherwise. The game was messy yet full of passion, but there was no way through for either Spain or Croatia. Until Spain got lucky again. Iniesta collected the ball with the upper part of his arm, provided the pass to substitute Navas, who scored the only goal of the game. Spain was through and Croatia had to wait to find out the score in the other game.
